DescriptionThe supply chain has evolved into a complete division of labor, reducing costs but also creating vulnerabilities. To address the weak points in modern-day supply chains, a PUF-based hardware root of trust (HRoT) is proposed. Protecting against reverse engineering, counterfeiting, and overproduction, the HRoT is equipped with the ability to generate a unique activation code (AC) for each die. This uniqueness is derived from the silicon fingerprint found in each placement of the PUF (physically unclonable function), whose strength depends on turn with its measured min-entropy and randomness characteristics. Leveraging these unique fingerprints, each die may be individually activated/authorized.
