DescriptionCommunication workloads’ pre-silicon performance on compute servers is not only a function of core and uncore performance, but also dependent on IO performance. We present augmenting Simics functional simulator with performance tools to convert core/uncore into performance models enabling pre-silicon HW-SW co-simulation environment. We use event scheduling to extend a multiport NIC to simulate IO pipelines and state machines. DDIO flows are modeled to accurately predict LLC and memory access delays, synchronizing IO and core flows into the uncore. We correlate this platform using VPP-FIB communication workload against proprietary performance simulators at speeds more than two orders of magnitude faster.
