DescriptionConsumer-grade Internet of Things (IoT) devices deployed in millions of households face an increasing number of security threats. Existing solutions to address home IoT device security are expensive, have limited capabilities, and ignore issues related to users’ privacy. In this paper, we present a router-based system for home IoT device security that provides end-users with more understanding and control over their home IoT networks using inexpensive traffic monitoring techniques. Our system can detect suspicious behavior in popular off-the-shelf IoT devices with high accuracy even when no prior data is available from a specific device by utilizing machine-learning based processing techniques.
