SUMMARY:Expediting Data Converter Layouts using Design Planning & Analysis

 s (DPA) Automation\n\nThompson, Kumar, Bhargava, LaBorde\n\nHierarchical D
esigns are challenging to plan and estimate while layout implementation sp
ecially when sub-cells layout views are not present throughout the hierarc
hy. Generate All From Source for top cell generates all hierarchical conte
nts flat at top layout view, this becomes very challenging to floorplan an
d estimate the aspect ratio of sub-cells and top-cell, this way it adds lo
t of re-work and iterations to layout designer.\n\nFor designs that have u
nimplemented layout views existing at the top level and the levels below a
nd where the schematic has a hierarchy and some or all levels of the schem
atic hierarchy have unimplemented layout views. Usually, for such designs,
the placement at the top level is oblivious to the actual lower-level ins
tances, so the top-level placement is often based on estimation. After the
design is routed, there might be changes needed to the top level that are
often expensive to accommodate. \n\nWith DPA, we can seamlessly implement
both advanced and mature nodes, backed by real routing data. It uses the
schematic hierarchy to create virtual hierarchy that can be realised, when
appropriate. Blocks that have an existing layout in place and soft blocks
, both are recognised by the DPA as valid inputs for planning.\n\nVirtual
