DescriptionSafety is the most prominent open problem in autonomous driving. Today, there is no substitute to extensive testing on roads. Virtual testing using simulation is making inroads. However, simulation can substitute to a certain extent but offers no guarantees. Is there a way of designing virtual (or synthetic) experiments so that a certain level of safety is guaranteed? We will examine some of the advances in this sector and point to future directions.
