HammerFilter: Robust Protection and Low Hardware Overhead Method for Row-Hammering

DescriptionAs DRAMs scale down, they become vulnerable to reliability and security concerns, and one of them is row-hammering. Although several solutions have been proposed, most approaches either incur excessive area overheads or show limited prevention capabilities against maliciously crafted attack patterns. In this paper, we provide a robust protection method for row-hammering with low hardware overhead by introducing a new data structure called HammerFilter. The proposed model prevents all of the row-hammering attacks, while the state-of-the-art probabilistic solutions mitigate them below 55%. Regarding area overheads, the proposed method is 34.6 times better than one of the latest counter-based solutions, TWiCe.
